What is practice and why is it important?Student practice may take place in or out of the classroom and is required to be completed as assigned. Practice will deepen each student’s understanding and challenge students through real-world application. Students must complete all practice associated with each standard in order to earn the opportunity to reassess. It is meant to build students’ confidence, allow them to make and learn from mistakes, and demonstrate their learning through explanation and work shown. Practice is also a great communication tool between teachers and students, students and parents, and parents and teachers. If students are struggling with homework but have worked and persevered for 30 minutes, an adult may sign off on the homework. Please communicate any questions or concerns regarding practice and how it benefits student learning. The Big Ideas Math + tab has additional videos, support, and information relating to each chapter.

How will practice be graded?Practice aligned with the curriculum will be graded based on completion with work shown and turned in on time. It will be carefully checked when it is due, and students will be required to check their answers and correct their mistakes prior to turning it in. Most often, an answer key will be available. This answer key will be used for instruction, feedback, and support. Students are aware that the answer key should be used to benefit their learning, not abused or taken advantage of. Practice scores will be reflected on Synergy in the practice category. Missing assignments will be communicated to parents as needed.
